The shaping, writing, editing, production, dissemination and follow-up of the Gender and Climate Change CEP will involve collaboration between a number of partners and other experts (particularly Southern-based), including the BRIDGE International Advisory Committee and the BRIDGE team. This is to ensure that the programme contributes as far as possible to stimulating new, creative thinking around gender and climate change. More specifically, a specific gender and climate change advisory group will be formed, with a lead advisor and four more experts from different regions and sectors on gender and climate change. The group will provide input throughout the 24 months to help develop key points for the CEP and to maximise the effectiveness of the programmatic process to ensure that it plays a recognised role in influencing gender and climate change debates, policy and practice at all levels.
An initial two-day face-to-face meeting established the framing of the CEP and an initial plan. Please see the key resources box for the full workshop report. Further discussions and communications are supported by the Eldis Community site. The Advisers Group is a closed group but please look round the site as there are lots of groups on climate change. BRIDGE will shortly be opening up a public Gender and Climate Change group soon.
A broader Community of Practice has also be formed, comprising around 20 policy makers, practitioners and researchers. Our first discussion took place in October and results from it will be availble soon. The concept note of areas of thinking around communities of practice is also available in the key resources box. Whilst online discussion groups will provide an important means for enabling communication, it is important for experts to meet face to face as well. We are planning several events in Cancun in December including side events and a Roundtable. If you are interested in attending, please contact Georgina at: G.Aboud@ids.ac.uk
CEP Overview Report, and will draw on the diverse knowledge and expertise of the advisory group, Community of Practice and BRIDGE team in producing it. The BRIDGE team will also work with the author and advisory group in writing the Supporting Resources Collection, ensuring that a diverse range of resources (including very practical tools) and summaries of non-English resources are also included.
Key processes of collaboration include:
BRIDGE at COP 16, Cancun, Mexico
BRIDGE and LIFE are hosting a UNFCCC side event called ‘Innovating and inspiring new thinking on the social dimensions of Climate change’ at COP 16. It is on 3rd December at 4.45 - 6.15p.m in the Jaguar Room at the Messe Hotel
What rationales are behind climate change debates? How are they linked to gendered roles, knowledge and responsibilities? The event will reflect innovative thinking on these issues from the BRIDGE Cutting Edge Programme on gender and climate change and discuss how to create wise, sustainable solutions.
