The Gender and Social Movements programme is being shaped and guided by an expert advisory group. Our lead adviser is Srilatha Batliwala, Scholar Associate with the Association for Women’s Rights in Development (AWID). Srilatha has more than three decades of experience in grassroots activism, advocacy, teaching, research, training, grant-making and scholarly work.
Our other advisers are:
The advisers are joined by Cutting Edge Pack author Wendy Harcourt, professor at the Institute of Social Studies in the Hague, and former editor of the journal Development.
The group had its first full meeting in May, where collaborative decisions were made on the direction of the programme and on key processes and outputs.
In addition, the programme is being informed by a broader community of practice. This group of around 30 activists and scholars of social movements, organising and movement building, are coming together through online discussions and dialogues. Their contributions will feed into the programme and inform the content of the Cutting Edge Pack. The first discussion was in October and the next will be in early 2012.
