Conflict, Peace & Security

Mainstream approaches to conflict resolution and reconstruction fail to recognise how armed conflict exacerbates pre-existing gender inequalities. This theme explores key gender issues including sexual violence in armed conflicts, the role of women combatants, the impacts of the displacement of people, gender issues in emergency relief and women’s engagement in peace and reconciliation processes.

Gender and Armed Conflict Cutting Edge Pack

Often approaches to conflict and reconstruction do not examine how armed conflict intensifies gender inequality. This pack explores the impact of armed conflict on gender relations, analysing the distinct ways that both women and men are affected. The overview report demonstrates that interventions must respond to the diverse needs of women and men who may simultaneously play the roles of activists and parents, soldiers and victims. The supporting resources collection features summaries of key materials, case studies, tools, web resources and networking contacts.
