Summary:

Summary language
The 10th Triennial Conference of Pacific Women was attended by Ministers and officials from Pacific island countries and territories (PICTs) holding responsibilities for women's ministries and departments, and development partners. The summary details eight main agenda items, ranging from mainstreaming gender into national policy development, implementation and reporting; to advancing the process of gender-responsive budgeting in the Pacific; and building a regional women's movement. Participants call on governments to support the further development of the new Human Development (HDP) Report Card, to strengthen the capacity of national statistics offices to use gender-disaggregated statistics and gender-sensitive indicators, and to progress the implementation of gender-mainstreaming tools, including gender-responsive budgeting. They urge donors and partner organisations to support full implementation of the Convention on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW); to support governments and civil society to produce, publish and disseminate research to influence policy and promote advocacy on women's human rights; and to strengthen regional frameworks, such as the Pacific Plan, to progress human security for Pacific women. Participants also joined in 13 thematic workshops, on a variety of issues including building young women leadership, advocating for women with disabilities, and overcoming cultural barriers to gender equality. The groups recommended that the meeting should, among other things: support participation of indigenous women's groups at relevant forums, endorse research around United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325, and request increased budget allowances for national women's machineries.
