BRIDGE Bibliography 3: Gender and Humanitarian Assistance: A Select Annotated Bibliography

Publisher: Institute of Development Studies UK
Publication Date: Nov 1994
While much research has been done on women refugees, relatively less attention has been given to gender issues in disasters and emergencies, as shown by this bibliography. This is despite the fact that the lines between disasters and emergencies and long-term crises (e.g. environmental crises) can be difficult to define. Entries give an overview of resources about assessing needs of, and providing assistance to, women in different categories of humanitarian assistance. These include: disasters/epidemics; civil strife/conflict; refugees and displaced persons; emergency (drought and famine) relief; disaster mitigation/disaster contingency planning; and relief and development.
