Gender and Health: Checklist of Essential and Expanded Services for Women's Health
Publisher: World Bank
Publication Date: Jun 1994
The essential and expanded services for women's health checklist outlines services that should be provided by the health sector if they are to fully address women's health. It forms one of several checklists, developed by the World Bank, with the aim of facilitating the incorporation of a gender perspective when developing projects and sectoral programs. Essential health interventions for women's health are mainly considered to be those that focus on reproductive and sexual health issues such as pre-natal services, the prevention and management of unwanted pregnancies. Interventions for behavioural change concerning harmful practices and the promotion of positive health practices are also highlighted. The checklist for expanded services offers additional important considerations for developing essential and expanded services to address cancer, gender-based violence, preventative care, and services for women beyond reproductive age.
